The study aims to identify the potential of using electric vehicles in primary solid waste collection and transportation practice of Lucknow. It is currently being done by N1 category diesel and CNG vehicles which are highly polluting fuel types. With the use of EVs the tail pipe emissions from diesel vehicles can be curbed at the source itself. With the available EV models in market, it was found out that the transportation costs of primary waste collection can be reduced by 195 INR/MT, which makes the use of EVs more viable from an economic front. The total cost of ownership of for ICEVs and EVs were compared, the results presented the TCO/MT of EVs being 33% lesser than that of ICEVs. The technological, economic and environmental assessment has resulted in EVs being a better choice for primary solid waste collection.
