Electric buses, which hold the potential to provide outsized air quality and climate benefits. Faster adoption of cleaner bus is an important part of the bigger solution for sustainable mobility in cities. Despite the promise of electric buses, however the adoption has been uneven and varied in scale. Implementation has not accelerated fast enough as per the EV Policy which had been drafted in aim to convert the fleet vehicles and public transport of each state to electric vehicle. The reasons for the implementation could vary from state to state. Therefore, the barriers also significantly vary. In Kerala, specifically the existing transport is in a critical state both institutionally and on ground.
The paper assesses and evaluates the four main categories like technological, economical, institutional, and behavioral barriers to the implementation of electric buses in Kochi city limits in its current status with respect to Kerala EV Policy. The Barriers highlights the gaps in the achievement of targets as well the policy measures to better implement the bus service in Kerala and make it resilient enough to convert it not electric buses in the mere future.
