Abstract:

In this paper we look at a Semi nomadic – Semi Pastoral Tribe from the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. This tribe is called the Gaddi tribe who get their name from the term ‘Gadderan’ which is where this tribe originated. This paper explores the idea of transformation and development and how it is affecting the lives of the Gaddans who live in the district of Kangra. In this study we also try to get to know more about this tribe and about their day to day practices.

Thus, this study is trying to look at the Traditions and Practices of the Gaddi community and how over time the traditional knowledge and practices are getting lost or replaced because of mainstreaming of the society.
