Abstract:

Shantipath is the main axis of Chanakyapuri, New Delhi. it is a monumental road in itself with the national police memorial on one end while the other end connects the ring road. It is surrounded by various embassies like Russia, Netherlands on either side of the road with 40m green lawns which act as buffer, unshaded , just spread over the entire length of the road, thus, denoting placelessness. Thus, a prominent identity of the street is somewhat missing. Therefore, creating an identity for Shantipath through the green approach was found to be an ideal sustainable solution. Simultaneously, Shantipath being developed as a greenway could form a part of the overall urban green infrastructure network of NDMC on a macro level.

Keywords: Identity creation, urban greens, greenways, urban green infrastructure network, green corridors, linear green spaces, streets, Shantipath.
