A street forms an important part of the urban system, a public space entitled to the use of everyone alike. The street is not just designed for the cars but also for the pedestrian and every pedestrian expects a street to be an urban space with a safe and friendly environment. A Pedestrian Friendly Street is envisioned to be one that caters to the needs of the pedestrians and has an inviting aura to it, a street that ensures complete safety to its pedestrians. The research conducted here aims at proposing implementable solutions to convert the Sanjauli Street to a properly functioning Pedestrian Friendly Street in the hill city Shimla. The study commences with analyzing the condition of the existing pedestrian infrastructure followed by a detailed literature analysis of the pedestrian facility guidelines and identification of gaps in the same. The study proceeds with a pedestrian survey and interaction with the authorities to analyze the expectations and challenges of the stakeholder and finally concludes with proposing solutions which will in the transformation of the street to a Pedestrian Friendly Street. The study reveals that the Sanjauli street lacks the most basic pedestrian infrastructure and hence will require complete transformation so as to become a successful pedestrian friendly street.
