Varanasi is one of the oldest cities in the world and is the famous tourist destination of Uttar Pradesh. It is considered as the center of culture, religion, and history. The Government of India has initiated a lot of programs and schemes to develop the city and improve the lives of its citizens along with providing better Tourism facilities. Two major schemes HRIDAY and Smart City Mission are under process in Varanasi city. Various projects are underway in the Varanasi Smart City Mission. The purpose of this study is to provide details on redevelopment project which is very important for the development of the city. Redevelopment is a process in which an area with existing buildings is developed and new construction is planned, according to the project requirements, in the same area. The purpose of this report is to know the need for redevelopment, changes in the lives of local citizens and public participation in the redevelopment of the town hall area which is used as a public space. Surveying stakeholders helped in getting information about the project and its pros and cons. Random sampling technique is used to collect data by surveying primary stakeholders such as shopkeepers and customers. After analyzing the data, the conclusion is that there is a lack of partnership approach, that is why there is a communication gap between stakeholders. Most of the primary stakeholders are not satisfied with the project but the redevelopment project is beneficial at present as well as for and their coming generations. The Municipal Corporation should take some serious actions for the participatory approach to avoid resistance in the implementation of the project and create a business district which would help in the overall development of the area.
