Abstract:

The Government of India has started to focus more on creating a sustainable and safe sanitation system in urban areas for the last 7 years, It has not only have set to initialized the swachhta mission but it also has enabled the creation of an environment through the conducive policy reports and reforms, with also having a strong data-driven monitoring and evaluation system by the Third-party Inspection(IQVIA) and with also engaging with stakeholders who directly involved in the process has led to the success of the swachhta urban mission project which was started from 2014 and still going. In this study, we have focused on how the Swachh Bharat urban mission program has helped and brought the change to the ground and how the certification program has sustained the ODF status of the cities. .Even though in this paper we also have showcased how the ULBs(Urban Local Bodies) has maintained and sustained their ODF status in their cities and how they have maintained their status of ODF + and ODF++ and how it has led to the safe and sustainable infrastructure system. Also how the private sector participation has helped to build the success of the Swachh Bharat Urban Mission project. Furthermore research would also focus on how these programs and initiatives would impact urban development in the long term.
