Abstract:

The convergence of diets and lifestyle forms the foundation of healthy wellbeing. Today all around the world, people are living in obesogenic surroundings due to dietary globalization thereby causing health consequences such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension and non-communicable diseases. The obesity epidemic is invariably increasing health problems, emerging as a consequence of intricate interaction of nutrition and metabolic factors. Well established literature has explained what people eat is not passive and healthy anymore (Fanzo and Davis, 2019). The dietary patterns with a higher inflammatory potential are associated with increased risk and/or incidence of cardiovascular diseases and other non-communicable diseases and to reduce inflammatory potential, an effective behavioural change intervention (BCI) would provide the nuances of dietary patterns. BCI is central in weight loss and maintenance. Earlier individual behaviours held no importance in reference to understanding complexity behind an individual's decision that can prevent health conditions but today, it is of paramount significance to address the obesity epidemic.

Future directions for study are outlined, which include assessing compliance to behaviour intervention package for excess weight gain at the household level. Further, it will explore the socio-cultural context of eating behaviour that is contributing to the rising obesity and overweight.
