Abstract: The paper inspects the link between gender and climate change using a literature review for
its analysis. Ten areas where climate change affects women and men differently are chosen
along with linking climate change, gender and the eight Millennium Development Goals
(MDGs). The mitigation and adaptation strategies are then evaluated with a gender lens.
Three Indian policies of the Government of India, the National Action Plan on Climate
Change (NAPCC), the State Action Plan on Climate Change (SAPCC) and the Joint Forest
Management (JFM) Act are reviewed to check for a gender perspective in these policies.
After the review, policy recommendations are made for the NAPCC and the SAPCC
Keywords: Gender, Climate Change, inequality, NAPCC, SAPCC, JFM.
