Abstract:

India is frequently cited as one of the most affected country in the world due to climate change. Most of the adverse effects of climate change occur in India are flood, drought, landslide, cloudburst, erosion which as a result impacts the livelihood and wellbeing of people. Although, it is always stated that everything impacts differently with respect to gender. Hence, with regard to climate change, many studies have been carried out where it said that there is gender differentiate consequences due to climate change. And if we look through India, with having already vulnerable marginalised sections in the society, then with the adverse effects of climate change, it becomes more vulnerable and fragile. Especially the Indian rural tribal women are more vulnerable due to the socio-cultural and environmental setting and with this they need to bear the brunt of it altogether. Moreover, the Indian Himalayan mountainous region is the most fragile region with the most diverse ecosystem, the impact of climate change turns out to be more hostile and fragile. Above all, in India there are more than 65 tribes who are the most marginalised and vulnerable among all the social groups. Therefore, this study tries to understand tribal women‟s vulnerability due to climate change with keeping in mind their livelihood and how they cope up with it in the state of Arunachal Pradesh.
