Abstract:

With the rising global temperatures, and the challenges associated with climate change, the O&G companies are adopting a diverse range of low-carbon strategies to sustain amidst the growing pace of a transitioning energy system. The study is in the pursuit of summarizing and examining the low-carbon strategies of the seven major IOCs, as they are the largest privately-owned companies and comprise of a similar business model broadly, they are the largest publicly traded companies on stock exchanges and undergo similar pressure from the shareholders to adopt strategies and adjust their portfolios as a consequence of the rising climate challenges. The emissions reduction targets, the diversification of portfolio via engagement along the energy value chain through investments in renewables, EVs and the adoption of low-carbon technologies such as CCS and Hydrogen within their businesses to attain energy efficiency and reduce their emissions; are actions being adopted as the low-carbon strategies of the seven major O&G companies.
