Plastics due to its impressive properties of durability, strength, inexpensiveness and light weight are considered as a versatile material and thus are widely used in our everyday life. This has led to drastic increase in production of plastics since the past years and has resulted in plastic pollution due to littering and improper disposal of post-consumer plastics waste1. Post- Industrial plastics waste2 is sent for recycling straight away from the point of generation but in case of post-consumer use plastics due to lack of collection efficiency and segregation of waste it is often found littering or piled up in landfills. This study aims at assessing the plastic waste market in Delhi and has conducted the study in Tikri Kalan plastic market. Data from CPCB resources, secondary literature and field visits was used to support the research in this field. To achieve the desired objectives methods like trend analysis, scenario analysis, LCA studies, fieldwork, SDGs compliance and case studies analysis are used. The study concludes that Delhi needs to set up more plastic recycling units, has identified pressure to curb pollution, public awareness as the main drivers and limited market and government regulations as some of the the barriers for the plastic recycling and lastly has proposed an enhanced partnership among all the stakeholders of the plastic supply chain. It has also highlighted gaps in present government initiatives and has proposed a few suggestive measures like integration of informal workers in the plastic recycling supply chain, channelising collection of segregated waste through ULBs, permitted use of food grade recycling plastics and compulsory use of recycled plastics in manufacturing process would help to create an enabling atmosphere for plastic recycling.
