Solid waste management is the most important function for the development of any city. A robust solid waste management system is very essential for maintaining health and hygiene in the city. If there is no proper management of waste then it will be dumped into open and create pollution and have severe impact on environment and health and hygiene of the people. SWM includes Collection, segregation, transportation and disposal of waste. Faridabad city is already come under the smart cities and Waste Management is one of the major components which will be essential in making Faridabad city successful as smart city. Waste management is also an important part of Swachh Bharat Mission. The main aim of this mission is to make the cities cleaner and promote better, hygienic environment. The main objective of this mission is to make our cities and villages free from open defecation. This mission also ensures that every city should have door to door collection of waste, have full source segregation so that there would be very lesser need of Landfill sites. For proper management of the waste government also introduces MSW rules 2016. These rules talks about the integrated management of waste. Municipal Solid Waste Management has become one of the biggest concerns in India. In today’s world changes in the lifestyle and living habit of the people along with accelerated growth of population, lack of awareness, financial support and inadequate technology influence the solid waste generation which has become a major problem. With the rapid industrial growth and changes in the pattern of living, modernization the pattern of waste generation is also changing. This study firstly talks about the current scenario or present condition of waste management and what the local government and people are doing to maintain sustainability in terms of waste management and also tells ways how to implement integrated waste management system for Faridabad city.
