The Star Rating of Garbage Free Cities is one of the several projects that the Government of India has introduced to motivate cities to improve their waste management and sanitation processes. The cities applying for this rating have to adhere to detailed and strict parameters to qualify for the desired star rating. In this study the project has been reviewed by evaluating the performance of 5 selected cities that have achieved 5-star rating in 2019 and 2020. Attempts have been made to understand how three of the five the cities have retained their rating and how other two cities have improved their rating. Recommendation for achieving 7-star rating has also been provided specific to the case of the five selected cities.
