The present environmental condition has led to special emphasis on energy efficiency in buildings and certifications which emphasize on building an energy efficient and sustainable infrastructure. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), a voluntary certification system, has emerged as one of the few globally recognized systems to quantify sustainability in building design and its performance. LEED for Commercial Interiors looks in-depth into minimizing impacts on environment caused due to interior works in commercial projects.
The ongoing commercial project in Mumbai, is to be energy efficient office building. The project work proposes road map for attaining energy efficiency in commercial office buildings. The intent is to reduce or cut down energy consumption by incorporation of optimum building design strategies and passive, active design strategies, use of energy efficient materials, technologies, etc. to achieve the same and enabling less dependency on non-renewable energy, enabling mitigate environment and climate change issues. The to be office building is designed and modelled on design builder software and simulated to understand the energy efficiency with use of different materials and it is found that with appropriate passive and active strategies, along with usage of climate appropriate materials any commercial office can be made an energy efficient building.
The ongoing LEED CI project in Chennai, is to be LEED Platinum certified project under commercial interiors. The project work proposes to understand LEED certification for commercial interiors space. The intent of this project is to understand the rating system and the constraints associated in achieving Platinum certification, learnings pertaining to constraints in achieving all the credit points for platinum certification. Besides, the association of all credits and entire rating system towards sustainable development. Ongoing LEED certification process was carried out with documentation of all achievable credits by working on narrative for each and every credit to complete the certification process and ensure the project is sustainable and energy efficient.
