Abstract:

This research attempted to study the use of technology in scaling up water security solutions through building capacity among the communities in India. India is blessed with abundant rainfall and so many natural water resources. Increasing industrialization, unsustainable water use for agriculture, pollution, climate change, etc. decreased the amount of fresh water available for use. To overcome this water-scarce situation, we need to look into the solutions available for the sustainable management of water resources. Building a cadre of frontline workers in the water sector helps in all the programs and projects which take place in India.

An organization called Arghyam, working on the water sector for the past few decades has come up with a capacity-building package including three solutions such as Participatory Digital Attestation, Guided Mentoring, and Curated Content Store. They have also launched a portal called India Water Portal which acts as a platform for people to read and share information related to water and its management. It has become an archive of resources, reports, working papers, articles, news, etc. on water over the decade. This study has attempted to look deeper into the three solutions and the portal and learn how these technological interventions help in scaling up the water security solutions through building capacity of people. Even though the application of technology has been successful in the field of health care and education, this is one of the first attempts in the water sector to use technological tools for attaining water security.
