Needs Assessment is a systematic process aimed at determining and addressing the gaps in the current and the desired conditions. A detailed Community Needs Assessment was carried out in 13 Project Affected Villages surrounding a large-scale manufacturing plant in Telangana with the aim of implementing community development programme based on the “felt needs” of the community. Subject to both internal and external factors, this study evaluates the present needs as well as changing and growing needs of the community by undertaking a socio-economic as well as a bio-physical assessment. The methodology used, majorly comprises of community interaction techniques, Human Development Index studies and climate change vulnerability assessment.
This Need Assessment report defines the community needs around five broad thematic areas - Education, Health, Livelihood, Women Empowerment and Quality of Life by defining the key sectoral issues and identifying the gaps in the current socio-economic status. The outcomes of the NAS study highlight the priority needs towards devising community development plan by incorporating natural resource management techniques and adaptation strategies.
