The research mainly attempts to quantify the food security parameters across the rural agricultural households in the states of Bihar, Odisha and Uttar Pradesh. The status of malnutrition has declined gradually in India but state level and household level shares are declining at a slower pace. This it is creating multidimensional nutritional challenges. To understand the underlying factors, which affect the availability, accessibility and utilization part of Food security.
Small scale and marginal farmers are facing more difficulty in accessing the resources for agricultural production slowing down the agricultural income pathway for the already vulnerable section of the society. The climate change and land fragmentation and policies are creating more bottlenecks for this vast share of the population.
Income, gender, education, resource accessibility is found to be the drivers for the poor productivity. Using Anthropometric measurements to identify the status of malnutrition is an indirect outcome of the study. Identifying these gaps are important in order up bring and transform India’s Small hold farming systems to rising challenges of climate change and globalization. Better nutritional outcomes creates better productive population, which is needed for a socially and economically stable country.
