Abstract:

Lifelong learning becomes crucial as there are complex set of psychological factors dys/functionally affects the adolescence. It gives the enabling condition and power to be resilient against the challenging conditions of life. Institutions such as World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) have worked in the areas developing key life skills that is required for individuals to survive since 1990. WHO for example, have identified ten psychosocial skills to promote the health and well-being of adolescents (Talreja, 2018). These skills are essential for adolescents and youth who are socioeconomically marginalised. Several researches have revealed that socially marginalised are vulnerable to exploitation and abuse of all kinds. In this scenario, the girls of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) have been imparting life skills training. It is a residential school in the Extremely Backward Blocks (EBB) of the country for upper-primary girl children who belongs from the most underprivileged groups. In this backdrop, this study has tried to understand the impact of life skills training on the adolescent girls of KGBV in the Gonda District in Uttar Pradesh. This study has employed a qualitative research method therein using thematic analysis (Braun & Clark 2006). The participants of the study are also the trainers were interviewed using an in-depth interview schedule. The findings of the study highlights that introducing life-skills program in the KGBV, plays a crucial role in enhancing their personal and professional skills.
