Abstract:

Apart from educational opportunities that India has access to, it is still scuffling from the gender inequality issues surpassing the economic growth. Gender inequalities can be seen in a woman‟s lives in the form of social convention; women are marginalized and considered as a second class citizen as compared to men in society. Girls in India are facing the discrimination right from the birth which is evident by the low child sex ratio of girls in India. The issue of low child sex ratio in India urged the government to take some action and hence „Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Abhiyaan‟ came into force. The scheme aims to curb sex selective practices and to improve the child sex ratio of the country.

The paper tries to analyze the situation of gender differences and status of education in Gurugram district of Haryana and it also tries to analyze implementation of BBBP programme by comparing one intervention village and one non intervention village by the Centre for Social Research, a nodal agency to implement BBBP. It looks at the secondary literatures and tries to understand the gender differences prevalent in the Indian society. And the primary data analysis the situation in the two villages and the intervention by the stakeholders involved.
