Abstract: According to the Global Risks Report 2018 of the World Economic Forum, “extreme weather events is ranked number 1 global risks in terms of likelihood (for 2017 and 2018) and ranked number 2 global risks in terms of impact (for 2017 and 2018â€). Extreme weather events are driven due greenhouse gas emission (GHG) globally substantiates the need of large scale green initiatives.
“GHG emissions resulting from the demand of energy have contributed significantly to the atmospheric GHG concentrationsâ€. Large amount of GHGs emission originates from fossil based thermal power plant, automobiles, cement industries and metal industries. To address the risk associated with the emissions stakeholders and subject experts identified the role of corporate engagements. Time to call and ask corporate to address the issues related to catastrophic risk, thus “Corporate green leadership†is a new paradigm which has evolved in the climate change debate. Industries/corporate being the significant contributor to GHG emission make the leadership role of corporate towards green initiatives more imperative.
The study aims to derive the focus on specific initiatives taken by corporate in renewable energy and energy efficiency interventions across five energy intensive sectors (Power generation, Mining, Cement, Automobile) in India. In the study, the impact of specific initiatives are been assessed. Study aims to identify the role of policy and regulatory ambience in India in deriving these initiatives.
Draft of Sustainable Energy Index is introduced as a corporate green initiatives performance indicator to assess and identify the potential contribution in terms of mitigating the climate change factor proponents.
