Abstract: In this work, biomass gasification has been investigated in a downdraft gasifier
by using air-steam as gasifying agents to see the effect of steam on Hydrogen
content (vol%)of the gas. An extensive literature review was carried out for the
studies done using a fixed-bed downdraft gasifier using air-steam gasification.
This was followed by experimental trials at 10kW downdraft gasifier at TERI,
GwalPahari.
The gasifier was brought to best performance and after establishing a baseline at
19±2% and steam was injected into the reactor. .The results showed that the
addition of steam increases the hydrogen content by 9.5%. The tar and dust
content after filtration was reported to be below 50 mg/Nm3 and 20 mg/Nm3
respectively which is “clean†enough for power generation applications.
