Abstract: Today, our life without any plastic in it is maybe unimaginable. It has completely revolutionalised our lives within the last few decades due to the factors that it is so versatile in nature; it is also strong, durable, inexpensive, corrosion resistant and lightweight. Such nature of plastic was considered a boon to the human society as it ultimately helped to free us from the dependence that we had on the natural products to serve our every need. But now it has become the bane of our very existence and it is an irony in itself that the product which was created to save the nature itself has become a menace for the environment, the wildlife and the human health. In light of such circumstances it becomes essential to analyze the present laws and regulations dealing with the plastic waste management in India and the also the world to ascertain the best ways to deal with the issue.
