Student name: Mr Rachit Frank Wilson

Year of completion: 2018

Abstract: Evidently in our country whenever the question of large scale dam constructions comes up, it raises a lot of issues regarding the dignity, livelihood and justice of project affected people. In this paper we have recognized the shortcomings of the land acquisition laws in India. Seems like the authorities responsible for framing the regulations governing land acquisition laws in India are quiet unaware of the market forces which influence such procedures.

By referring to the struggles, achievements and failures of the previous case the author has tried to explain the mistakes of the legislators and what needs to be done to correct it. This paper can be categorized in three parts, first, representing the historical background of the land acquisition laws and the sufferings of the displaced people caused because of it. Secondly, the present framework governing land acquisition for dam construction, the initiatives by the government to mitigate the suffering of the displaced and lastly, Some recommendations to strike the correct balance between growth and justice. The author doesn‟t promise that this paper will be able to provide the solution to all issues relating to securing the rights of project affected people, but can ensure that this is a step in the right direction.
