Abstract: The ‘occupational identity’ of a person is traditionally seen as indicative of merely their economic status. However, this study proposes an alternate way of understanding the occupation identity of a person by arguing that it is indicative of the skills exercised by them on a daily basis. Additionally, it is also indicative of the differences in environmental attitudes of people because of the varying degree of closeness to nature across occupations. The study explores the impact of this complex occupational identity on the pro – environmental behavior of people over different dimensions. It is observed that the occupational identity affects people’s PEB in several significant ways. People with higher cognitive and motor skills are seen to have higher PEB intensity while interactive skills show a negative relationship with PEB. These results are further explained with qualitative insights from the survey.
