Abstract: Increasing pressure on land as a result of demand of resources is reeling as one of the factors
leading to the need for redevelopment. The people in changing urban scenario demand more
reflective (refers to learning and integration of experiences from past) and redundant (refers to the
capacity to accommodate disruptions ) structures. As our city areas grow old and obsolete, they need
to be transformed. Transformation which keeps the needs of future in consideration including the
ability to bounce back to its state after a disturbance is required. This proves the need for integration
of resilience in projects, especially area based redevelopment projects in Delhi. This study provides a
framework for assessing the resilience for an area based redevelopment project in Delhi. The
framework is developed considering the City resilience index framework (given by ARUP,
Rockefeller foundation and CDRI) and the points for making a building more resilient. It consists of
5 dimensions including the following:
Planning and implementation, health and wellbeing, economics and society, infrastructure and
ecosystems; and leadership and strategy.
These 5 dimensions are further divide into 13 goals with 44 parameters. These parameters are used
for pilot scale evaluation based on pilot survey and study of details of project from various secondary
sources as well as primary sources (project site visit in case of Kidwai Nagar and Connaught place).
Key words: redevelopment, resilience, conceptual framework, pilot scale evaluation.
