Abstract: Urban sprawl is a vastly experienced phenomenon driven by population growth and large
scale migration. This phenomenon when goes unchecked expands the city beyond sustainable
capacity & puts excess of pressure on not just the natural resources that a region has to offer
but also the man-made services that a city can cater to. This report covers such very
important kind of service of water & sanitation for Delhi city. India with its 30.66 million
urban households forming 35.49% of the urban households suffers inadequate access to
sanitation facilities. With the launch of Swachh Bharat Abhyaan and establishment of new
sustainable development goals, right to equitable & adequate sanitation has become bacon
drawing in urban experts.
This report talks of the policies & standards in place for city sanitation then further discusses
about where, how many & what type of toilets should be introduced into sanitation systems to
curtail open urination & defecation in an urban Setting. But to develop a system that is full
proof and adequate Macro & Micro level strategies have to be focused upon. Further there is
a need to integrate the policy with the social aspects that come specifically with the part of
city we intend to regenerate.
