Abstract: The report includes the work performed during the period of 3 months. It includes the analysis if the Indian
solar industry from a financial point of view. It which includes the potential of solar market in India, various
government initiatives, challenges, opportunities faced by the renewable energy market in India. As there has
been a huge rise of renewable energy market in India, particularly in solar the investment sentiment has been
high lately. The report briefly describes the potential of solar energy in India and how India has been bestowed
upon with abundance of sunlight, which makes it a perfect location to harness the power from the and convert it
into electricity which can be substituted for conventional coal based power in most parts of the country. The
government soon realised the potential of solar power in the country and thus came up with various subsidies
for residential, institutional and social segment of customers as well as not leaving behind the commercial
segment which forms a vast chunk of space. Other than the central government the state government also came
up with their respective solar policies thus giving a push to solar in the market. Currently India’s total installed
capacity in solar power is more than 12 GW and the country is on its path to attain the 100GW target by 2022.
Several capital as well as interest rate subsidies from government NBFCs and several public sector and private
sector financing companies also been identified to give boost to the sector.
