Abstract: Water is the vital natural resource. It is the soul of the beverage industry, as it is used in all
major processes and in the beverage itself. The water intensive industries are forced to adopt
more efficient, advanced treatment facilities and monitoring systems due to the stringent
environmental regulations laid by the government. This study was carried out to analyse the
water and effluent quality of the manufacturing plant of the beverage industry and thereby
look into the effluent discharge compliance.
The study was conducted at selected plants of Hindustan Coca Cola Beverages Pvt Ltd. The
study used a gap analysis approach, to identify the gaps and flaws in the current effluent
processes and effluent discharge parameter monitoring system.Gap analysis helps to examine
current compliance status/practices in relation to specific standards and successfully move
towards the desired compliance level according to the latest rules and legislation (Gap
analysis to develop a better process, 2017).
This approach was useful in identification of gaps in the manual lab experiments and the
data obtained. The real time monitoring system was studied and the combined systems of
online monitoring and manual data helped in meeting the effluent discharge standards and
environmental compliance.
Further from the study it is suggested to install this real time monitoring system in the
remaining beverage manufacturing plants of HCCBPL.
