Abstract: This report argues that centralized wastewater treatment systems approaches have very
limited reach in all parts of the country and limited success. There is a very important and
emergency to make calls to implement wastewater treatment a people centric and cost
effective and resource recovery effective, through the use of decentralized systems such as
DEWATS. There is a need to built up connections or terminate the gaps. Also a major need
in the capacity building is required within the community institutions and a participatory
action by local bodies in order to achieve a huge scale up of such innovative approaches in
the near future. Thus this paper discuss about the understanding of involvement and
participation of both stakeholders and beneficiaries and not only focusing on the technology
part of the resources limited communities.
Key words: Resource limited communities, resource recovery systems, capacity
building, community institutions, water reuse, centralized, decentralized.
