Abstract: This thesis describe a research project which focuses on making action plan for River
Rejuvenation by using GIS Automation. This Automation can be applied within GIS
framework for plotting the different structure on Maps. In this research project,
several tools are using for plotting the structures and these structure are important
part of rejuvenation the basin (Recharge well, boulder checks and water pool). In
this action plan we take three major river basin in Karnataka. Formulation of master
plan start with base map preparation, existing land use, Geomorphology, settlement,
water body and other suitable data necessary for reviewing existing situation and
proposing the action plan for River Rejuvenation.
The Art of Living founded by Sri Sri Ravishankar has been planning and
implementing river rejuvenation projects that are carried out adopting the logical
method based on the thematic maps generated using satellite images, involving
communities and Government schemes have yielded good results in increasing the
groundwater potential. This is indicated by the revival of failed bore wells as well as
availability of surface water in the existing water pools, as experienced by
implementing similar plans in the parts of Vedavathi, Kumudvathi, Palar, Pennar
river basins in Karnataka. The whole process has been compatible with nature as it
revives the pre-existed natural process of increasing the soil moisture, recharging
groundwater, maintaining sustained flow of water in the stream bed and into the
water body. This is like filling the gaps created in the water cycle.
