Abstract: This study aims to focus and understand various pressures (resource and community
pressures) in the mid gang etic basin and why landscape approach should be looked upon in
the mid Ganga basin to achieve sustainable development. This approach is different from the
sector approach and is not only limited to understand only one sector pressures and solution.
This approach tries to interlink various pressures on land, water and community by including
both technical and socio economic factors over that place/ landscape. Through this study, we
aim to understand the socio economic dynamics and gender roles in the four villages of
Hardoi District, Uttar Pradesh and various pressures on land and water resource by the
farmers and non-farmers in four villages. Socio economic dynamics are important to
understand because it will give us picture of the pressures on resources and how the decision
making process at community and household level impacts these pressures by developing
understanding on gender roles.
