Abstract: To develop an IWRM plan for the watershed planning process that can be used to educate
partners and stakeholders on watershed conditions, generate local support, and identify
specific actions needed to improve water management, Land Resources Inventory (LRI)
can contribute to a watershed assessment or characterization report, which becomes part
of a watershed plan. LRI is the compilation and description of existing natural resources
data. A comprehensive LRI provides the basis for land conservation planning, and allows
natural resources information to be included in local planning and zoning. Thus,
development of LRI is required for an identified watershed and to meet this objective,
Kathan river watershed in Chhatarpur district of Bundelkhandh, Madhya Pradesh is taken
as study area.
The main objectives of the study is to develop detailed characterization of all the land
resources like soil, water, land use and major crops, assessment of the suitability of land
for major crops and delineation of homogenous areas based on soil-site characteristics
into land management units. This was accompanied by collection and interpretation of
climatic, soil and agronomical data and establishment of watershed level digital land
resources database in a GIS framework.
