Abstract: The insanitary surroundings are dreadful in India and need a pronounced sanitary arousal
parallel to what took place in London in the mid-19
th
century. Enhancement in sanitation needs
new plans and targeted interferences with follow-up evaluation. The need of the hour is to
recognize the current arrangement of environmental sanitation with respect to its arrangement
and working and to list the control approaches according to the need of the country. These
urgencies are mainly significant because of problem of water restrictions, environment-related
health difficulties, rapid growth of population, unequal supply of water resources, issues
connected to administrative problems, urbanization and industrialization, population migration,
and rapid growth of economy. Providing sanitation equally to all the citizens of the country has
been a major issue for the government. This problem is faced mostly and extremely by the urban
poor in any urban cities. Even the public transport which caters to the large floating population
everyday was found to be deficient of the sanitary conditions. The public toilets are built not
taking into consideration any guidelines; they are built for the sake of building it. Sometimes the
toilets are built in such places which are almost inaccessible for the people and make them not
using the amenities provided to them. Though, guidelines include the signage of the public toilets
should be provided but no such signage is used at any place which sometimes leave users
unaware of the fact that any amenities are provided to them. There is a great need to set
guidelines and make the public toilets accordingly for successful implementation of Swacch
Bharat Mission and other sanitation policies which deals with sanitation issues in India.
