The Swachhta status of Dhanbad under Swachh Survekshan ranking

Abstract: As India is in its developing stage, major problems and issues needs to be paid attention
to climb up the ladder. One of the most important obstacles that the country faces is on
sanitation provisions and management of municipal solid waste within the boundaries.
Government of India along with its stalkholders have provided with series of policies,
programmes and strategies to eradicate such problems in India, regardless of it attempts,
still all the efforts have believed to be a failure on their part as proper implementation and
practices of these were not followed. Hence in 2014, the Prime Minister has tried to set in
a new mission of Swachh Bharat. This led to the commencement of Swachh Survekshan, a
flagship of Swachh Bharat Mission, where 500 cities across the country was assessed and
ranked according to their cleanliness. and sanitation parameters.
It was observed that the Swachh Survekshan matrix has helped the cities to improve in
every edition successively. As the matrix includes all parameters of cleanliness, the cities
are putting in great endeavour to match up to the standards which is helping the country
to progress forward. Cities participated in the previous editions has performed better in
2017 hence showing a mark of great improvement and advancement. This study mainly
focuses on the progress of Dhanbad, Jharkhand under Swachh Survekshan ranking
