Abstract: The dissertation work was carried out at two different locations. First being the Tertiary Treatment Plant located at Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Panipat Refinery and other being Effluent Treatment Plant located at Hindustan Mittal Energy Limited, Bhatinda Refinery. The various processes involved in treatment were studied and performance evaluation of the plants was done by monitoring the various parameters and carrying out sample analysis at different stages of treatment which help in gauging the efficiency of the plants.
The main purpose of the Tertiary Treatment Plant of capacity 900 m3/hr. in Panipat Refinery is to recycle wastewater generated in the Refinery from the Effluent Treatment Plant, Cooling Tower Blow Down, Boiler Blow Down and Filter Water Reservoir. The treatment processes adopted is of three stages namely Pre Treatment, Ultra Filtration and Reverse Osmosis System followed by Final Polishing Unit to meet the design quality and quantity parameter of the final treated water leaving the Tertiary Treatment Plant. The Tertiary Treatment Plant has been designed to produce Demineralized quality water after suitable treatment.
The Effluent Treatment Plant in Hindustan Mittal Energy Limited, Bhatinda Refinery complex is mainly envisaged to treat the internal generated Oily Effluent, Spent Caustic, Contaminated Rain Water System, and Sanitary Waste Generated inside refinery and Sour water/Floor wash waste system wastes. The treated Effluent which was generated from these areas will be recovered back to Reverse Osmosis Demineralized Plant and other sections of the refinery. Various treatment units include Oily Water Sewer Treatment section with a capacity of 500 m3/hr., Sour Water & Contaminated Rain Water section with a capacity of 500 m3/hr., Spent Caustic Treatment section with a capacity of 5 m3/hr., Sanitary Waste section with a capacity of 25 m3/hr., Oily & Chemical Sludge (Bio Remediation) section with a capacity of three reactors of 75 m3.
