Abstract: With the increasing population and urbanization, buildings are being constructed at great pace. Buildings are consuming a huge amount of energy. To reduce this and building’s impact on environment, green building concept is introduced. Rating systems for these buildings are introduced. As there are different rating systems, it is important to understand the procedure they incur to calculate the energy consumption of the building and how they calculate the energy saving for the building. This project deals with three rating systems in India, namely, GRIHA, IGBC & LEED.
Each rating system specifies provision to perform energy simulation of the building using energy simulation tool. A commercial building is selected for study, which is supposed to be located in New Delhi. The building is mainly tenant occupied. So, LEED 2009 for Core & Shell development, IGBC Green New Buildings Version 3 and GRIHA Version 3 are selected for study. Selected LEED & IGBC specifies use of ASHRAE 90.1, while GRIHA specifies general procedure for energy simulation.
For GRIHA, only one model is created but for both IGBC and LEED rating systems, two models are created, namely proposed and baseline models. The energy simulation procedure for these rating systems is understood and energy models for them are created using eQUEST version 3.63. The inputs for the modeling are taken as per the standards and design of the building.
