Abstract: The Project is based on the management of Reactive Power injected by the Renewable Energy
Sources such as Wind Turbine and Solar Photovoltaic in the Distribution Grid. Reactive Power
management is necessary in order to limit the voltage in the safe operating zone on the bus-bars and
transformers, and is also necessary to minimize reactive power exchange with the Transmission Grid.
An Optimization algorithm has been developed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy and
Energy System Technology, which sends reactive power set-points to the distributed generators. In
this project, the algorithm was tested by creating time-series data of active -reactive power values of
generators-loads for specific conditions. A model of distributed generator for simulation testing was
also created in SIMULINK environment. The generator model, time-series data, and the grid topology
will be fed into OPSIM analyzer, which will simulate the behavior of real-time grid.
