Abstract: India implemented one of the world’s most stringent lockdown measures in 2020 during on-set of the COVID-19 pandemic. This forced Indian educational institutions at all levels torapidly transition to an online mode in terms of both teaching and assessment. This article recounts and reflects on my experience in Master’s level classes with administering online assessments using the Forms application of Microsoft Office in molecular biology courses over the course of a year. In this specific case, all evaluation components formerly employed in paper-based offline assessments could be successfully replicated in the online version over two entire semesters and part of a third. This article discuss the strategies I used, as well as the strengths, limitations and concerns associated with manually proctored open-book online assessments using Forms for life sciences education.
