Abstract: The internship period spanning six months involved monitoring and further evaluation of two
registered CDM projects namely “Energy Efficiency measures in DMRC Phase II stations†and
“First Solar PoA in India by SENES Consultantsâ€. For the first project Voluntary Emission
Reductions (VERs) for two years 2012 and 2013 were calculated while for the second project
post registration Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) were calculated from a period starting
from commissioning to now. As per calculations, the first project resulted in a total of 12,788
tCO2e which is 9.6% less than the estimated emission reductions in registered PDD (14142
tCO2e) for the same period. However the project still shows a high degree of energy
conservation by being 30% less energy consuming than the phase 1 counterparts. So, the energy
efficiency measures employed by the DMRC have performed exceptionally well.
The Solar PoA project (project 2) is a renewable energy CDM project which (as per this thesis)
consisted of 26 solar PV plants located across India. The operation of the project resulted in total
production of 69413 MWh of clean, renewable electricity and thus subsequently 63992 CERs in
total were generated.
Overall the two CDM projects resulted in 82201 ton of CO2 reduction and contributed greatly to
environmental conservation and positively influenced sustainability.
