Abstract: One of the major Environmental problems in India and World as well on date is Waste. The
growing urban population and increase per capita waste generation makes the situation more
harder to handle. An urgency to act, acting for environment and ecosystem protection has
arrived. In the same urge the present work is intended to understand not only the technical
aspect behind the energy recovery from organic waste but also social inhibitors and impacts,
filed work and issues in installation and maintenance, potential of the domain in both
technical and business areas.
The solution that enables in treating the organic part of municipal solid waste through
biomethanation. The renewable energy device fits in minimum available space and no foul
smell which is ideal for urban scenario. The solution has multiple out draws such as treating
at the source, energy recovery through biogas and manure. The economics of the plant are
very strong offering a average pay back period of 3 years depending the scale of plant,
additionally a closed nutrient cycle and a better environment is established. In a urban world
of increasing waste generation and growing need of power the municipalities strangled with
the problem, but through Biogas energy device the waste becomes the resource for generating
power for street lighting.
