Abstract: Effective energy utilization is desirable to conserve the natural energy resources as well
as tooptimizing the cost of utilization. Industry is by far the biggest user in of primary and
secondary form of the energy and, although much work has been done to use energy more
effectively in the last few decades. The World Bank with the support of Global
Environment Facility (GEF) has designedthe MSME Energy Efficiency project as a part
of the GEF Programmatic Framework projectfor Energy Efficiency in India. The project
is being co implemented by Small Industrial Development Bank of India (SIDBI) and
Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE). The objective of this project is to increase demands
for energy efficiency investments in targeted MSMEs clusters and to build their capacity
to access commercial finance. To achieve the desired goal, the energy audit of MSME
units in the selected cluster was conducted. Following are the key activities conducted
under the project:
ï‚· Walk through audit (WTA)
ï‚· Detailed energy audit report(DEA)
ï‚· Preparation of investment grade detailed project reports (IGDPR)
ï‚· Facilitation for financing of energy efficiency(EE) projects
ï‚· Support during implementation of energy efficiencyprojects
ï‚· Monitoring and verification
As far as finding is concern, this project has given a depth about the areas required focus
for improvement in term of energy efficient technologies and best operating practices for
sustainable development.
