Abstract: Universal Health Coverage (UHC) means ensuring every citizen with quality healthcare services, without from
suffering financial hardships. UHC in India, formally has been introduced in the 12th Pive Year Plan in the form of
High Level Expert Committee Group (HLEG) Report that encompasses a model proposed for Indian context. The sa
country which endorses free access to an Essential Health Package (EHP) as a means towards universal health
coverage. This study on ‘Augmentation of Universal Health Coverage in India’ encapsulates the genesis and
evolution of UHC internationally and nationally. Subsequently understanding the existing shortcomings of the
Healthcare System of India, thereafter understanding the model proposed by the HLEG for India, the progress that
Indian states have made towards achieving UHC. Thereafter it learning’s from the beyond India UHC models and
eventually identifies the Strengths and Opportunities through varied mechanisms of analysis. Finally this study
provides with recommendations that could address the effect and efficient implementation of UHC in India.
