Abstract: Although the vehicle ownership in India has increased, need for last mile connectivity options
for short trips is still causing huge burden on the pockets of people and at the same time, has
its own environmental implications as well. Need of the hour is to develop sustainable
transportation systems at least for short distances which are low cost, reliable, convenient and
environment friendly at the same time.
The project acts as a pilot for the above stated initiative wherein a business model is
developed for introducing bike sharing system in the University of Delhi, North Campus. The
pilot is aimed at studying the existing transport infrastructure in the campus and bridging gap
between what exists and what is needed through a public cycle sharing system which fulfils
all the criteria of being a low cost, reliable, environment friendly mode. Primary and
secondary survey, stakeholder analysis and SWOT analysis have been done to determine a
business model on a PPP (Public Private Partnership) mode along with the financials which
shows that such a model is feasible through engagement of the specified stakeholders and
proper campaigning.
