Abstract:

Water is an integral part of our life. It serves a purpose in almost every aspect from daily uses like drinking and bathing to indirect uses like industrial uses and agricultural uses which are as important to sustain humanity. As the global temperatures are increasing however, the risks related to water are also getting prevalent. The shifting climate in different areas has paved way for increasing event of drought, flood, water stress, water scarcity etc. and it is getting more and more uncertain to predict the kind of weather these calamities will bring with them.

The Fast Moving Consumer Goods, which are highly dependent on water for their manufacturing and sourcing are now having to think twice before setting up their operations without any sustainable management integration. Not only the companies are now more aware and actively participate in water management practices, but they are also introducing stewardship programs which will benefit the society as a whole.

The purpose of this study is to understand the water risks faced by an industry in the FMCG sector and to be able to understand the high risk sites that need utmost attention of the company, assets that are vulnerable, and how to mitigate those risks in the upcoming years. This study will also try to capture the future scenario and if it is any different from the current scenario and will also try to assess the loss in business operations due to natural calamities like flood and drought.

If large industries and companies start to pay attention to their effects on water and how they are affecting the status of water in those particular regions, it will pave the way for smaller industries and individuals alike to focus more on how they use water and if it can be used more efficiently.
