This study investigates consumer preferences for motor vehicles, with a specific focus on the acceptance and adoption of Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles and Electric Vehicles (EVs) in the urban context of the Mumbai Metropolitan Area. The researc h highlights the ongoing dominance of ICE vehicles due to their market entrenchment and perceived dependability. Nonetheless, there is significant interest in EVs, fuelled by positive user experiences and heightened environmental awareness. Key factors inf luencing consumer preferences include cost, environmental impact, and technological advancements. The study underscores the need for enhanced policy measures to promote EV adoption, including financial incentives, improved charging infrastructure, and publ ic awareness campaigns. Despite the growing interest in EVs, substantial barriers remain, necessitating targeted interventions to shift consumer behaviour towards sustainable transportation options. The findings provide valuable insights for policymakers a nd stakeholders aiming to accelerate the transition to cleaner vehicular technologies.
