Infrastructure in a country occupies crucial role in driving growth of other industries. Construction industry in India carries substantial importance because of surged demand from projects in the real estate and infrastructure. The sector exhibits to be the second largest in the country in terms of employment generation. Informality is widespread in the construction sector which leads to lack of capacity for providing adequate working conditions to the workers at construction sites. This creates a negative outlook on the Quality of Work Life (QWL) of these workers and thereby on their livelihoods.
The following study enables understanding about different domains and facets that influence working conditions of the workers at construction sites and how it impacts quality of work life of these workers. The study further discusses about the structural changes in employment owing to the poor QWL of these workers. The empirical analysis is done by collecting primary data, using factor analysis approach and multiple linear regression modelling to compute QWL scores. Study concludes with policy implications to improvise the QWL scores for welfare of the construction workers in India.
