In India, rapidly growing population and changing tastes and preferences has raise the trend of unplanned urbanization with changing composition (increasing,use,of,paper,,plastic,,and,other,inorganic,materials), of municipal solid waste.
By 2031, the amount of waste generation will raise from 64-72 million tonnes at present to 125 million tonnes. Untreated,waste,(a, mixture,of,biodegradable, or, wet, waste, and, non-biodegradable, waste), from, Indian, cities, lies, for, months, and, years, at, dumpsites, where, land, was, originally, allocated, for, developing, landfills, for, safe, disposal, of, only, the, residual, waste.
The present study is a comprehensive review summarizing the present SWM status of Pan India cities.
In India, an assessment was conducted to check the progress of Swachh Bharat Mission Urban (SBM-U) and rank the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) i.e. the 5th edition of Swachh Survekshan, like its four predecessors based on cleanliness and sanitation parameters. A progressive evolvement has been made in survekshan from being an assessment of 73 cities in 2016 to an evaluation of 4242 cities in 2020.
The Mission is mostly targeted towards making cities open-defecation-free, building community toilets, and generating awareness on SWM and its processing system.
