As we are aware that GIS as a whole plays a very crucial part in our daily lives. In today’s scenario where a mobile phone is said to be the smartest thing around, the use of GIS in it can’t be ignored. Be it maps, point out GPS locations, do data collection, or surveying, a mobile phone does the job. So, to enhance these specifications of GIS, we need to construct and design a geospatial learning module that can reach the remotest part of our country. This project focuses on developing web-based geo spatial tool that will help rural communities especially women to get empowered by GIS knowledge. The Learning Management System implemented here is part of CSC India, an association of Digital India initiative of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India.
By creating GIS backed knowledge with the assist of ArcGIS online and various other resources of Esri India, the project “Bhu Kaushal” is implemented and launched. Through this initiative, in the first phase, 10,000 women from rural area and semi urban areas of India will work with the government of India. The technological aspects cover geo spatial enable tools which helps in mapping, data collection, traveling from point of source to destination etc. are briefly developed as learning modules here.
So, here I developed a learning curve that focuses on the knowledge of geo spatial education. These modules are created such that even a basic learner from a village background can learn and understand the importance of GIS at many levels.
The entire modules are based and launched through the applications of geoinformatics, which includes learning and implementation of participatory GIS for rural population and further helping it with socio-technical aspects of the society.
