Abstract: While many policies and schemes have been rolled out in the country to adopt energy efficiency
and reduce energy intensity, there have been blockades all along the road in actually realizing
the potential of them. The implementation of such initiatives from the government have hit rock
bottom many a times, but still with the hope to transform into an energy efficient economy, India
has been rigorously working to achieve breakthroughs in successfully implementing the energy
conservation measures via voluntary energy performance contracting, mandatory energy
conservation codes, fiscal measures, and many more. This report focusses on some key sectors of
implementing energy conservation, challenges faced in reaping rewards from such measures and
suggest some solutions/insights to tackle the situation of waiting and watching. The report
focusses on three key projects: 1) Implementation of ECBC in States; 2) Energy Conservation in
hospitals; and 3) Energy Audit in Tannery (SME)
The results provide insights on the key challenges faced and suggestions to tackle the challenges
to successfully achieve the targets of reducing energy intensity and cutting emissions by 30-35%
by 2030 from its 2005 levels.
